What Can FatDog Do For You?

In this post I will describe what I do here at FatDog and the services I provide. There is a little for everyone!

FatDog Woodworking & Our Services

I am a single person business.  I like it that way.  Here is what I do daily:

  • I have several products on Etsy and Amazon.  So I build those items a couple days a week to keep inventory levels up
  • I build custom orders as they come in from you, our valued clients.  This always comes first.
  • I research what people want (what is trending) and design it on design software that provides me plans to use to build it where it is perfect, strong and will last for decades.
  • I take the new design plans and go build it.  When I am done, I put it in line to be posted for sale.  If it sales and I can tell it is in high demand, I list it on Facebook Page and on the website here.  Some I add to Etsy and Amazon, but most are left to be sold locally because it is products that I do not want to mass produce, because it will take up too much time and take away from fulfilling custom orders from you.  So, since this website is brand new, expect many items to be placed on the website soon, as I can get to it.  I would much rather be building in the shop than working on the computer, so please be patient and sign up for our newsletter so you will receive notifications when new products are released.
  • If I feel that the product is something others would want to build, DIY or otherwise, I will place the build plans up for sale here and on Etsy so if you see products you like, you can either choose to buy from me, or buy the plans and build it yourself.
  • During all the above, I answer any emails, phone calls or social media messages that I receive as communication with you is very important to me.

Who Do I Work With/For?

As described above, I wear a lot of hats doing what I have to do to make a living and provide for my family.   But let me show you who I work for/with:

  • I work for myself. Website sales, Etsy sales and Amazon sales are my products that I produce that I sell consistently to earn a semi-regular living.  Those sales go up and down during the seasons, so I also do other things to serve customers.  Such as……
  • Custom Woodworking.  I get approached, normally by a previous customer or someone that has seen this website asking if I can build random things.  They will send me a picture of a product and ask if I can build one similar but to their specifications.   I will build a mockup in design software and they will hire me to build it, or not.  If I feel like I can do the project justice, I will take the job.  If I don’t have the right equipment or experience needed, I will let them know.  I love the challenge of building new projects.   I was approached by a woman on Etsy that asked, since I make boot jacks, if I could make one that looks like a rabbit.   I worked on the design so that it looked like a rabbit but was also functional.  She loved it and ordered multiples.  This is something I enjoy doing…pleasing the customer that had a childhood memory of a rabbit boot jack, and getting to do something different that is challenging.   The rabbit was easy, but making it functional was a challenge.   So Challenge Me.
  • Designing new home decor that is appealing to the eye and most everyone’s home style is one of my favorite things to do.   If requested or I simply see something that catches my eye, I will design it then make it.  If I like the outcome, I will put it up for sale.  If it sales and there is more interest, I keep making them for others. If not, then I move to my next project.   So from the research, to designing it in software, to building it in the shop to selling it to a customer is what I really enjoy doing.  The plans you see on the website under the plans section are the actual plans I use to build the project.   And you can too.
  • So I fill my inventory for Amazon and Etsy products.  I take custom orders and requests.  I customize/personalize projects for customers. I build requested decor for customers.  I research, design and build new products constantly.  But what I don’t do is custom cabinetry, built-in work, or any other work at a customers home.  I am just not set up for it.

What Materials Do I Use?

I use locally sourced materials only.   I work with mostly pine except for projects that require hardwood.   Hardwood is expensive and while it might be more durable in certain applications, it isn’t needed for most.  I love the wood growth patterns in pine and I love the way it stains.  And it is tough.  But with that said, if you would like your project made from a hardwood, just let me know.  I have no problem making that happen.  It will increase the cost slightly, but that is to be expected.

As for any hardware materials, I buy them locally from a local hardware store.  I believe buying locally vs Amazon is important so that we support our local businesses as much as possible.   So buy locally when possible.  Us small businesses appreciate it.

So all materials are Texas sourced materials.  Texas sourced…..Texas USA Made products.

Where Do I Sell My Products?

I sell my products here on FatDogWoodworking.com, on Etsy, Amazon Handmade, Facebook, Instagram, and locally Business-2-Business and at craft fairs and flea markets when I have time.

I love to collaborate with other businesses.  There isn’t much I can’t build, so I like to talk to other brick and mortar stores and help supply them with products that fit their genre in their store.  So if you would like me to make products for your store/shop, just contact me and let’s talk about it.  We can make some exclusive products just for your store.  I place them in stores/shops in a consignment nature, where you only pay me a portion of the sales price after it sales.  It cost you nothing to stock your store with some of my products, until it sales.
